Papplewick Pumping Station - Model Boat Section
PPS Model Boat Section is a group of Papplewick Association members who enjoy building and sailing model ships and boats.
We usually meet up on Sundays throughout the year, but very much weather dependent, sailing the models on the large pond at PPS, which has good access all the way round, and is fairly sheltered.
Sailing times are from about 10:00am to 2:00pm, cars to be parked on the drive and a hand barrow is available to carry the boats and tackle to the pond.
The models owned and operated by members are all radio controlled and vary from submarines, fishing boats, patrol boats, tugs and large scale vessels to yachts and scale sailing boats.
Boats powered by IC engines or very powerful, noisy electric hovercraft, are not permitted on the pond.
A boat shed is used to house battery charging equipment, marker buoys, frequency pegboard and other associated model boating items, a ‘rescue dinghy’ is also available.
Weather permitting, during Station Steaming Events, the Model Boat Section organize a static display of models, as well as sailing on the pond.
Several of the members have a wealth of modelling knowledge and experience, gained over many years, and will be happy to share it with newcomers to the hobby.
This year 2016 event is a “Dive into Papplewick Pond” on Sunday 27 March & Monday 28 March, see:-Subs
An array of model submarines on display and sailing in the Pumping Station's
Cooling Pond, there will also be talks during the day about the models.
In the past we have had a RNLI Life Boat Day on the pond, no event is planned for 2016, here are some pictures from the 2012 event
