Membership and Friends of Papplewick Pumping Station
It is about 40 years since the formation of the Papplewick Association, which was set up to support the Papplewick Pumping Station Trust with the maintenance and operation of the Station.
As with all voluntary groups, we are getting very short of active members to support the preservation of the pumping station. If you think that you have a few spare hours to help out on Steaming days or other Sunday afternoons, (as well as Wednesdays) come and join us.
You do not need to be technically brilliant, the help that we need is in looking after visitors. You could spend a couple of hours on the gate, welcoming people and collecting some money, or looking after the refreshments.
If you have the gift of explaining things, try talking to visitors, show them the items on the site.
If you like to work in the background, how about a bit of polishing the brasses.
If you have green fingers, a bit of gardening, there is plenty to do now that the grounds have been re-laid.
If you like to get your finger really oily or covered in paint we can find you lots of jobs. Most of the mucky jobs are done on Wednesday and Sunday when we are not steaming the engines.
You may have other ideas that would be useful.
Please come along on any Sunday afternoon or Wednesday morning and talk to the few who spend most Sundays keeping this beautiful monument open to the public.
Join the Association and support the Station, active and not so active members welcome.
